The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is powered by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged eTorque I-4 engine with an electric traction motor, which replaces the eight-speed automatic transmission’s conventional torque converter. Also included is a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Altogether, the Wrangler is capable of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The battery also allows for more than 20 miles of all-electric driving.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Drive choices include two-wheel-drive, four-wheel-drive high, four-wheel-drive low, and four-wheel-drive auto. The Wrangler 4xe can hit 60 mph in just six seconds and travel 400 miles with a full charge and a full tank of gas.
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a beast when it comes to the road less traveled. The rugged SUV features solid front and rear axles, 4.10:1 axle gears, a 4.0:1 low range, front and rear selectable locking differentials, an electronic disconnecting front anti-roll bar, monotube dampers, and 33-inch all-terrain tires. The Wrangler 4xe is also more than capable of tearing down the trails and up hills using just the electric motor; however, you need to engage the gasoline engine for harsher terrain.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s battery can be fully recharged in around two hours using an available Level II charger, or 12 hours using the included Level I charger. The battery is also charged when decelerating and braking thanks to regenerative braking. This feature remaps the accelerator pedal to command more aggressive regen at low pedal positions. This allows you to slow the vehicle down without the brake pedal. A complete stop always requires the brake pedal, however.
