Check the oil in Car Engine

A vehicle is a big investment, and you want it to run for years to come. At the same time, you need to make sure that you can drive it safely. You can extend the life of your car and keep it safe by performing regular maintenance. Check out some maintenance tasks that you need to follow to keep your vehicle in tip-top shape.

Check and Change the Oil

Your car’s oil lubricates the engine, allowing it to run smoothly. Because it plays such an important role, you need to change and check it regularly.

First, maintain an oil change schedule based on your manufacturer’s recommendations. Second, check the oil in between oil changes. Make sure your car has enough oil, and it’s a goldish color. If the oil is low or looks black, it’s time to take it to a mechanic.

Monitor the Tire Pressure

Your tire pressure is also important. If your tires are under or overinflated, your car can’t run efficiently. You also might notice some issues with the handling, and you could even experience a blowout. Keep a tire pressure gauge on hand and check the tires at least once a month. If the tires are low, add air. Keep in mind that if you’re constantly adding air, you likely have a leak.

Check the Tire Tread

Driving on worn tires is dangerous. The tires won’t get ample traction, so you could lose control of the vehicle. Also, worn tires are more likely to fail. Turn a penny upside down, with the front-facing you. Then, stick the penny between the tread. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, the tread is too low, and you need new tires.

Also, look for any irregularities on the tires. Do you notice cracks or bulges? If so, head over to a tire service center.

Change the Air Filter

Imagine taking in dust and debris every time you took a deep breath. You would choke, wheeze, and have trouble moving. Without fresh air in your lungs, you’d find it hard to get anything done.

Your car’s engine is the same way. It also needs fresh, clean air to perform. Your vehicle’s air filter removes dirt and debris from the air, so it can perform at an optimal level. However, if the air filter is dirty, it can’t do its job. Checking and changing the air filter is a simple job. You can do it yourself or ask the team at your local oil change facility to do it for you. Most places will check it for free when you pay for an oil change. Then, you can pay a small fee if you need to change the air filter.
