If you like your cider sweet, go for Gala or Fuji, which are sweeter types of apples. If you prefer a more tart flavor, then consider trying McIntosh or Pink Lady. If you’re unsure, you can mix both sweet and tart apple varieties to get the best of both worlds.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon of Ground Allspice
  • 10 Large Apples, Quartered
  • 1 Tablespoon of Ground Cinnamon
  • Water (Use just enough water to cover the apples)
  • 3/4 Cup of White Sugar

Directions

Step 1: To make a tasty apple mixture, place the apples in a big pot and cover them with water by at least two inches. Add sugar, cinnamon, and allspice and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil, uncovered, for an hour. Then, lower the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for two hours. NOTE: You don’t need to worry about taking out the apple cores when making homemade apple cider because any solid bits will be filtered out later. It’s also unnecessary to peel the apples because the skin contributes to the color and flavor of the cider.

Step 2: First, strain the apple mixture using a fine-mesh sieve and discard any solids. Then, drain the cider again using a sieve lined with cheesecloth. NOTE: To extract all the juice from cooked apples, make sure to press them with a ladle while straining. You should strain the apple cider at least twice before serving.

Step 3: Enjoy the deliciousness of our cider, either warm or cold, straight from the refrigerator. NOTE: You can pour the apple cider through a strainer either into a pitcher to enjoy cold or into another pot if you prefer it hot.
